A great place to live. Jon lives here so he is a little biased. That being said, if you are thinking of moving this way, it has plenty to offer in the way of schools, parks, shops, and transport links. BR8 is made up of a town; Swanley, and three villages; Swanley Village, Hextable & Crockenhill.

Schools
If you are looking to move to the area for schools there are some good ones about, for primary you have; Crockenhill School (Crockenhill), High Firs (Swanley), Anthony Roper (Eynsford) and Downsview Primary (Swanley), For secondary; Orchards Academy (Swanley) and you’re within driving distance of Dartford Grammar Girls, Dartford Grammar Boys and Wilmington grammar

Parks
In terms of parks, there are a few play parks dotted around Swanley, Hextable and Crockenhill, but if you want a half a day out, Swanley Park (New Barn Park to us slightly older generations) is a great place to visit. It has so much to offer; you have 60 acres of parkland to take the dog for a walk or go for a stroll with the family. There is a large play park, miniature railway, soft play for the little ones and a boating lake. You also have Hextable Park at the top of Emersons Avenue, just off Main Road.

Places to eat and drink
If you are looking to go for a drink, The Cotton Mill micropub is a local favourite and is close to the centre of Swanley. If you are looking for a pub that serves food, as well have the Lullingstone Castle in Swanley or Jon’s local, the Chequers. You have The Bull Beefeater, which usually offers great deals and a great place to go out with the family. You are a short drive to Eynsford, Orpington & Bluewater Shopping Centre, where you will find a great selection of restaurants and pubs.

Transport
Swanley station is located close to the centre of Swanley and has great links into London; a fast train into Victoria (26 mins) and Blackfriars (48 mins).

History
In 1066, Swanley only consisted of a few cattle farms, surrounded in oak, sycamore and ash (Fraxinus) woodland.

The civil parish of Swanley was created in 1955 from neighbouring parishes of Farningham and Sutton at Hone reflecting the developments of the town and increase in population. In 1974 the parish council became a Town Council and included the settlements of Hextable, Swanley Village and the main town of Swanley. In 1988, Hextable was formed into a separate parish council.
