Having both grown up in Dartford, one, it is close to our hearts, and secondly, we have a very good knowledge of the area. If you are thinking of moving here, we have put together a handy guide to give you an insight into what Dartford offers.

Introduction

Dartford is going under major re-development, with hundreds of new homes being built. It’s also renowned for its grammar schools and is easy to commute to central London.  We’ve put together a local guide to some of the reasons why it’s so popular.

Types of housing

Dartford offers a diverse array of housing options, from Victorian terraces to modern apartments and family-friendly residences. The town has seen rapid development and regeneration in recent years, reflecting its appeal to a wide spectrum of residents, from young professionals to growing families seeking a vibrant and well-connected community to call home.

Location

Nestled in the picturesque county of Kent, Dartford is a town brimming with history, culture, and an inviting community spirit. From its fascinating past to its modern amenities, there's something for everyone to explore. Let’s take a look.

Schools

Dartford is renowned for its grammar schools, in particular, Dartford Grammar and Dartford Grammar girls’ school usually ranking amongst the top. There are plenty of options outstanding Ofsted-rated junior schools too.

Places to eat and drink

Foodies rejoice in Dartford's dining scene, where traditional English pubs rub shoulders with cosmopolitan eateries serving up international flavours. From cozy cafes to lively bars and fine dining establishments, there's no shortage of options to tantalize your taste buds and satisfy your cravings.

You aren’t short of options in the area, but here are two of our favourites:

Cadiz – formally Carnaval, a tapas restaurant and cocktail bar. I’d suggest booking ahead as it’s usually busy and as soon as you walk in, you’ll notice the vibrant atmosphere. The food is authentic, great food. There are plenty of different drinks to choose from. It won’t come as a surprise Cadiz has over 400* google reviews.

Le Tre Sorelle – A traditional, Italian restaurant. A nice venue, and whenever I have visited has been quick service and great tasting food. It also has a nice selection of wines. It’s not just us that thinks Le Tre Sorelle is brilliant, as they have been reviewed over 300 times.

Leisure

For those seeking leisure and entertainment, Dartford offers a plethora of activities and amenities. Dive into the modern leisure centre for a refreshing swim or workout, discover local sports clubs for athletic pursuits, or catch a live performance at the Orchard Theatre or the Mick Jagger Centre for a night of cultural enrichment.

Travel

A big attraction to the area is the homes are still affordable here with the ability to easily commute into central London. For example, a train from Dartford to London Bridge can take just 36 minutes. There are also plenty of bus routes taking you in either direction, whether you are heading towards Bluewater shopping center, or back towards London. The M25 & A2 are within easy reach.

Parks

Dartford isn’t short of green space, whether you are looking for someone to take the family or a quick walk with the dog. Central Park has recently received a major investment that has gone towards redeveloping the children’s play park. During the summer they hold regular events on the weekend, where you can chill out and watch musicians perform. You’ll regularly see me walking the dog at the likes of Hall Place, Dartford Heath, Hesketh Park, Darenth Country Park, or Brooklands Lake.

History

Dartford's heritage can be traced back to Roman times, with evidence of ancient settlements and industrial prowess. The town played a pivotal role in the Industrial Revolution, shaping its identity as a hub for paper, brick, and gunpowder production. Notable for being the birthplace of legendary musician Mick Jagger, Dartford’s historical landmarks and stories continue to captivate residents and visitors alike.
